The casting process is simple:
-
Be sure to bring all the forms and payment for registration. You are able to receive them at Orientation or before your Audition.
All forms and payment must be turned in before Call backs or casting. Your child will NOT get a callback for a lead nor casted if the paperwork/payment is not in. You may make a payment through Check, Venmo @greenetreetheatre or Cash. We are currently working towards eventually having an online option for everything including payments. If you do not get the role you want and choose to not be a part of the show, know that your payment is non refundable.* At Greene Tree Theatre I understand there are a lot of options out there but know our goal is on the community and character we are building over talent. -
On Audition days our young performers will break the tension with a quick 5 minute warm up and introduce themselves . Next, we learn a small portion of some Choreography (Dance) and a song from the musical together as a group. We will be hearing your singing, watching your dancing, energy and attitude, and watching how fast you pick up on the steps and instructions! During this whole process, The Director and Artistic team will be taking notes. Don't let it stress you out, just do your best and have fun! We want to see everyones levels.
Next step Each actor will be called in a separate room to perform one minute of a song of their choice (appropriate, of course, and preferably from a musical ). They can sing a cappella or with a track. A good audition can make all the difference, so come prepared.

Callbacks are where we narrow down students for the more specific roles. Not everyone will get called back but you will still get casted accordingly. Disclaimer: callback day does not mean anything is guaranteed. It’s simply for clarity before the final casting. You will receive slides(short portions of the script) / songs by email or paper which are optional to memorize if you would like.

Final Step is casting! Currently we are still at a point where everyone will make the show but casting specific roles is crucial. It is a Director's job to do what’s best for the entire show and cast. We want to give different kids the chance to be lead roles each season but we think it's important that hardwork and talent are still a top priority. Every audition is a chance to prove and show what you can do and how much you've grown. Everything such as confidence, singing ability, enthusiasm, attitude, effort, past history with us and availability all matter. We want each and every child to be able to shine on stage and have an enjoyable season. No one should ever be casted for a role they are not ready for. All parts are important and needed, no matter how small or big. How much one shines isn't determined by how much lines or time spent on the stage but what one does with the time and lines given.

This program is designed to work with your busy lives and schedules, but it still requires even the basic commitment on your part. We strive to give opportunities so that everyone has a chance to participate and be a part of the arts in a simple, fun, yet still professional, way. Like any other sport or activity, it requires you to be at the very least dependable to not only bring your kid/s to rehearsals, but to encourage them and work with them in your free time as well. It’s unfair and unprofessional for the students who are dedicated when other students are constantly absent or skipping rehearsals or coming to class not prepared. Greene Tree Theatre puts a lot of responsibility on the actors, but your commitment is just as important as theirs.
Be sure to read our “Policies and Regulations” form for further details on Greene Tree guidelines and operations before signing it and securing the registration. We have added a statement of faith we ask parents and actors to sign as well to be on the same page when it comes to the guidelines at rehearsals events and shows. We want to keep our community wholesome and free of drama and confusion. All walks of life are welcome but while you make the choice to be involved we want to keep clear the general guidelines, healthy boundaries and uphold biblical values.

Attendance: Refer to policy. Attendance is extremely important, in order to be able to stay on schedule and to learn the script and show. Please, be on time, communicate in advance when going to be out of town or absent, and know this is a commitment that should not be taken on lightly.
Behaviors: Please, always come ready to learn and practice. It is a huge distraction if we have to stop class because students are talking or not paying attention. Adult conversations and PDA are not permitted. Neither is bullying or harassing. We are a company based on traditional, Christian values and expect parents and students alike to adhere to those guidelines. The directors will have a behavioral chart we will keep on file for the season and will address any issues with child and parent.
Practice record: This will be a form we want to use to give incentive for students to rehearse and practice at home. It makes a huge difference when one practices at home and diligent work should be rewarded.
